SHARE Greater Lynchburg celebrates those who GIVE GOOD to our local community

SHARE Greater Lynchburg and the United Way of Central Virginia are teaming up to help you GIVE GOOD this Giving Tuesday, November 29!

The mission of Giving Tuesday is to spread radical generosity across our local community. Neighbors can GIVE GOOD with a $5 donation, by volunteering, joining a board, or even working for a nonprofit! So let's celebrate everyone who is out there living GIVE GOOD in Central Virginia this season. 

Building Bridges Productions Inc. Hosts 2nd Annual Talent Showcase

Building Bridges Productions Inc. will be hosting their Second Annual Talent Showcase and Fundraiser next Saturday, Nov. 12th to showcase young local talent and award winners with scholarships. 

This organization was started by Janice Benejan in March 2016. “It was an inspiration because I remembered going through school and never having the opportunities to attend a performance club or anything like that,” says Benejan. 

Amazement Square Bounces Back from COVID and Prepares for the Ugly Bug Ball

Amazement Square was started as the City of Lynchburg’s very first children’s museum in 2001 after a council decided that a museum in the city would be an important asset to have and would serve the children of Lynchburg and beyond. 

The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation Celebrates 50 Years and Welcomes SHARE Greater Lynchburg as a new program

The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation (GLCF or Foundation) celebrated 50 years of service to the community on Wednesday. In 1971, an employee of Fidelity National Bank submitted an idea to form a Community Trust. This innovative idea arose at a time when there were not many community foundations in the nation, but it was well received.

YMCA of Central Virginia Makes Strides for the Community

The YMCA of Central Virginia is known to some as the place where members of the community can go to swim or use the gym, but the YMCA is more than just a gym. 

The Y is a cause-driven organization of a dedicated community of men, women and children with a shared commitment and mission to nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living and foster a sense of social responsibility.

Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest Invests in its Community

Thomas Jefferson inherited the Poplar Forest plantation through his wife’s father, John Wayles. During his second term as president, Jefferson designed and directed the construction of an intimate retreat on the property, which he used as a getaway from his hectic life at Monticello, located up the road in Charlottesville.
 

Board of Best Practices 101

If you're interested in joining a nonprofit or civic board of directors for the first time, join us for this three-hour professional development training. Seasoned local nonprofit practitioner and instructor, Emily Crowder, will break down the fundamentals and expectations of nonprofit board leadership and share best practices. The training will conclude with five local nonprofit leaders pitching why you should interview to serve on their boards. A boxed lunch will be provided.

Meals on Wheels and The Lynchburg Humane Society Team up to Make a Difference

Every season, SHARE Greater Lynchburg hosts a networking mixer for its partners to come together and discuss certain projects, ideas and give the nonprofit leaders of Lynchburg a place to intentionally connect with one another. 

In the summer of 2021, SHARE hosted a mixer at the Academy Center of the Arts where many different focus areas were represented. Two of the most contrasting partners were put in a discussion group together.
