What We Do

Birth in Color LYH provides pregnant people services to ensure a safe journey to parenthood and make better decisions for their children, linking maternal justice to reproductive justice. Those interested in doula services or pregnancy and postpartum classes and support groups can visit www.birthincolorlyh.org to learn more or apply for services. Birth in Color LYH Started in 2021 with our first cohort of trained community based doulas launching into birth work. Since then, we have trained two additional cohorts of doulas to serve the Lynchburg community. We also have Certified Breastfeeding Specialists among our doulas who can offer additional breastfeeding support to clients who are interested or in need. Our goal is to continue to provide doula services, doula trainings, childbirth education classes, and support groups to our community.

Interesting Info
  • Black women are 3-4x more likely to die during childbirth than white women. We provide resources, including free doula support, to lower maternal mortality.
  • We are working to train doulas of color across the state of Virginia.
