Peer-to-Peer Lunch and Learn at United Way of Central Virginia

Join us on November 15th for our Peer-to-Peer Lunch and Learn hosted by United Way of Central Virginia at 1010 Miller Park Square in Lynchburg. Learn about UWCV's programs and impact in our community, and get an introduction to the United Way's 2023 ALICE report. ALICE stands for "Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed", and it represents the target populations that many of our nonprofits serve.

Lunch will be provided by SHARE Greater Lynchburg and Freedom First.

Children's Assistive Technology Service (C.A.T.S.) Hosts Largest Fundraiser of the Year

Children’s Assistive Technology Service (C.A.T.S) is an organization out of Moneta, Virginia that distributes adaptive and mobility equipment to children with physical, neurological and developmental disabilities. 

The devices that are distributed are often refurbished and made to be in peak condition for use for families and children. 

VLAS Helps Families and Individuals With Legal Assistance

The Virginia Legal Aid Society works to provide legal assistance to low-income individuals and families throughout Virginia, although they have a local office in downtown Lynchburg. 

VLAS was established in 1977 and currently handles about 3,000 cases per year, most often relating to housing and domestic violence. 

Small Business Membership Program launches at the Academy Center of the Arts

This past weekend, like many weekends before, the Academy Center of the Arts was bustling with various concerts, classes and gallery viewings for the whole community to enjoy. 
 
The Academy provides a wide range of arts programs at increasingly affordable prices, and some events and workshops are free to the public.
 

Wall Opportunities and Wishes (WOW) Provides Connection for Clients

It is often difficult for people with developmental and/or mental health disabilities to stay connected with caseworkers and generally make sure they are equipped with what they need. 

Wall Opportunities and Wishes (WOW) aims to serve this population and meets needs that go above and beyond basic connection between clients and caseworkers, one of the organizations’ largest outreaches.

Impact Living Services: A Better Future for Teenagers in Foster Care

Life for teens aging out of the foster care system is harder than the average 18-year-old’s. However, in the Greater Lynchburg area Impact Living Services looks to give them a brighter future through their independent living programs. 

When a child in the foster care system reaches the ages of 17 to 21, they begin to age out and must make a decision: do they want to go out independently into the world or do they want to seek extra care and support as they transition?
