For the past 30 years, the United Way of Central Virginia has hosted Day of Caring, a day in which companies from the greater Lynchburg area take off from the work day and volunteer that time to assist local nonprofits. 

One of these nonprofits, who has been a long term partner of United Way CV, is the Mary Bethune Academy, a children’s care center for children aged six weeks to five years old. 

On Wednesday, April 19 from 12-1:30pm, we will gather at Park View Community Mission's Life Skills Institute (2323 Memorial Ave, Suite 26) for lunch and a time of sharing, followed by a presentation and tour.

Come take a deep dive on Park View Community Mission's six programs. You will leave with a thorough understanding of what PVCM offers, the referral processes, and how we, as nonprofit partners, can best collaborate together to strengthen our community.

When Gwenn Cheatwood’s third grade daughter expressed interest in joining her school’s Girls on the Run program, she jumped at the opportunity to become a volunteer coach. She kept coming back, season after season. Even after Cheatwood’s daughter aged out of the program, her passion for Girls on the Run continued to grow.

Camp Kum-Ba-Yah (CKBY) \Nature Center has been serving the children of the greater Lynchburg area for years, making impacts on hundreds of children year-round, but especially in the summer months. 

As summer is around the corner, parents and guardians in the area may be looking for ways to get their children outside and involved in different activities while schools are closed for the summer.

Summer is around the corner and with that comes summer vacation for local children in the Greater Lynchburg area. At SHARE, we are launching a summer camps landing page where camps and day programs will be available in one place, along with organizations who offer scholarships for their programs so that all children are able to have a place to go.
