Motherhood Collective Celebrates World Breastfeeding Month with Milkapalooza

“Nurture the mother to grow the child” is a saying that The Motherhood Collective (TMC) uses to guide its mission of caring for mothers and providing support to women across the community. For the sixth year in a row TMC along with partner Centra is hosting its Milkapalooza event, a family-friendly day that celebrates World Breastfeeding Month and Maternal Health resources in the area.
The Motherhood Collective is a maternal health program at HumanKind that offers evidence-based education and support from preconception to postpartum for women through its own subset of programs.
A monthly café is hosted where individuals can attend and listen to expert panel discussions and expand their maternal health knowledge, making them feel more prepared and supported for what lies ahead of them. TMC also offers a peer to peer support group focusing on anxiety and depression which are some of the top complications in pregnancy and the postpartum period. In addition to this group, they also offer a peer to peer Care support group that uplifts women coping with infertility, miscarriage and pregnancy loss.
On Saturday, August 26, The Motherhood Collective will be hosting the 6th Milkapalooza event on the front lawn of Virginia Baptist Hospital from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event is a partnership with Centra that encourages families and individuals to come out to visit maternal health related vendors, as well as enjoy lawn games, a petting zoo, and food trucks like Kona Ice and the Wandering Donut 2.
The event is free to the public and attendees are welcome to come and go throughout the allotted time.
SHARE Greater Lynchburg will also have a table set up with cornhole, giveaways and more information about SHARE.
