Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg provides about 600 warm, healthy meals per day, Monday through Friday to homebound individuals in the community. They do this work year-round, rain or shine due to their love of serving and nourishing the community.
Communications Director, Becky Tweedy says, “The one distinction that we like to make is that since we don’t receive any government funding we are at liberty to serve all ages and all incomes, which makes a big difference.”
As the 2024 year approaches, Meals on Wheels is anticipating its 50th birthday and delivering its three millionth meal on Oct. 12, 2023. Like all nonprofits in the community, this work takes fundraising and creativity to keep its mission alive.
Wheels Up is Meals on Wheels’ online raffle fundraiser where individuals can purchase a ticket for a chance to win a trip to one of four destinations that the organization has chosen.
One ticket is $110, the same amount of money that it takes to feed one person for a month through Meals on Wheels.
With this ticket, the buyer receives a one in 100 chance of winning $1,000 cash and a trip to either Lake Como, Amsterdam, Grand Cayman or Park City.
The fundraiser is running until Sept. 29, but if you buy your ticket by Friday, Sept. 15 then you will receive a total of three entries to win in the raffle.
A live drawing will take place on Sept. 29 at noon, so tune in after purchasing your ticket to find out if you are a lucky winner!
