Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation Celebrates 19th Annual Breakfast with the Superintendent & "Pi Day" at Texas Inn

The Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 committed to advancing excellence and equity throughout Lynchburg City Schools through advocacy and educational funding.

The LCS Education Foundation funds ongoing initiatives designed to provide additional resources for teachers, recognize student accomplishments, and strengthen city schools through programs such as Classroom Innovation Grants, the Tools4Schools Warehouse, Senior Honors Recognition, and sponsored student scholarships. Another program added in 2022 was Lynchburg Imagination Library, a local program of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to impact readers birth to age 5.

"We have been expanding our scope a bit to Pre-K and birth to age 5. Our goal is to support the children that are in the city of Lynchburg. This is our 40th year and we are an endowed institution at the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation so we'll always be in existence to support Lynchburg City Schools."

The 19th Annual Breakfast with the Superintendent was held on March 13, hosted by interim superintendent Dr. Ben Copeland. The theme was "Inspiring Achievement through the Arts". The event hosted over 400 attendees and 70 different businesses were represented. Any Lynchburg City Schools staff member or PTO leader who wanted to attend could do so because of support from local businesses.

Read-A-Thon 2025

The LCS Education Foundation supports the organization and prizes for a coordinated Read-A-Thon initiative of the "PTO Connect" group every March. It is a grassroots effort launched in 2021 to connect PTO leaders for shared resources and best practices. The first school to host a Read-A-Thon was Bedford Hills Elementary School in 2021 after their popular carnival fundraiser was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In spring of 2025, six LCS schools participated, reading over 693,000 combined minutes! Two more schools will participate this fall. The Read-A-Thon has raised a combined total of more than $110,000 from 2021-2024 as more schools sign on to the effort. As of March 12, over $41,000 combined dollars has been raised for 2025.
