CASA of Central Virginia

Every child deserves a safe, permanent home and someone who will stand up for their best interests.

Since 1989, CASA of Central Virginia has been a powerful voice for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. We recruit, screen, train, and support dedicated community volunteers who serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs), ensuring that children navigating the court system have someone looking out for their needs, well-being, and future.

Appointed by local judges, CASA volunteers build meaningful relationships with the children they serve, listen to their concerns, and work closely with families, caregivers, social workers, teachers, and other professionals. They gather important information and provide independent, child-focused recommendations to the court, helping judges make informed decisions that can shape the course of a child's life.

CASA volunteers are more than advocates. They are consistent, caring adults during a time of tremendous uncertainty. While circumstances and placements may change, a CASA volunteer can be a steady presence, making sure a child's voice is heard, their needs are addressed, and their best interests remain at the heart of every decision.

Serving the City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and Nelson, CASA of Central Virginia has advocated for thousands of children since its founding. Yet the need continues to grow, and too many children in our community are still waiting for an advocate of their own.
