What We Do
Are you in need of food? You can find a list of Food Bank partner food pantries in the Lynchburg region here: https://www.brafb.org/find-help/pantry-locator/
In the midst of an unprecedented public health and economic crisis, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank continues to work urgently to maintain our vital food supply and distribute food to neighbors in need. The population of people who are food insecure is rising quickly, and we anticipate sustained levels of increased demand across the city of Lynchburg and the counties of Bedford, Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell, and Nelson.
Typical food donations from wholesalers and producers have gone down this year while demand has gone up. As a result, the Food Bank is seeking gifts of $500 to $50,000 to purchase food for distribution through 46 Lynchburg area partner food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters, and 46 program sites. The projected 12-month purchased food budget tops $2 million.
Last year, volunteers contributed 28,546 hours to the Food Bank as they worked hard to distribute food to their neighbors. Volunteers pack food in the Lynchburg warehouse, distribute food at Mobile Food Pantries, and work in a variety of specialized volunteer roles. Please check the volunteer page for more info. You might be just the person we are looking for!
Our greatest need are funds to purchase food to distribute safely to our neighbors-in-need via front line network partners (food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens) serving your community.
