Written by Carrie Eobbi, Liberty University Intern
Fireworks on the Riverfront is BACK this summer in Downtown Lynchburg on Friday, June 30th from 6-9:30pm! This firework display is a free event taking place at Riverfront Park to bring together the Lynchburg community.
This ‘picnic-style’ event allows you to bring your own food or to grab takeout from the downtown restaurants prior to the event. There will be food trucks & activities at the event throughout the evening to enjoy as well.
Downtown Lynchburg offers free parking on nights and weekends. For a helpful parking map put together by Downtown Lynchburg Association, click here.
We sat down with James Ford, Marketing Director at the Downtown Lynchburg Association (DLA) to get more information about the upcoming event!
Q: Why is this a must-do event for the summer?
A: This year's fireworks display will be bigger and higher than ever before! Visitors can expect food, music, and activities to begin at 6 pm at Riverfront Park with the fireworks show beginning just after dark – between 9-9:15 pm.
Q: What are your pro tips for the evening?
A: I would plan to head home from work, change, grab a picnic blanket, grab some lawn chairs, and head downtown. I would even potentially claim a spot in the park and then go grab some dinner or takeout and bring it down there.
Q: Is this event rain or shine?
A: In the event of rain, we are going to have to make the call day of. At the earliest it would probably be noon. Stay tuned to Downtown Lynchburg Association’s social media pages & we will send out a newsletter as well.
Q: How does DLA pull this event off for free?
A: Fireworks on the Riverfront is made possible thanks to title sponsor, BWX Technologies, with additional support from Genworth Financial, First National Bank, Gentry Locke Attorneys, Freedom First Credit Union, the City of Lynchburg, and media partners ABC13-WSET, iHeartMedia WYYD & WJJS, and KD Country.
The Downtown Lynchburg Association is looking for volunteers to help at this event. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities before, during, or after the event, click the link here.
