Kids' Haven: A Center for Grieving Children

Volunteer Opportunity:
Meal Maker for Family Grief Support Group Nights
I'm Interested!

Kids’ Haven provides a place where children, teens, and their caregivers who have experienced a life-changing death loss can come together to be part of a community. Our Family Group Night program is open to bereaved children ages 3 to 18 and their families. By providing a meal for our participants, you are helping to lighten their load and remove one obstacle that could keep them from attending Family Group Night. The meal is also a vital part of what happens at Family Group Night. We have found that the friendships formed around the dinner tables lay a foundation for what happens during group time.

Meal providing for a Family Group Night consists of: preparing (purchase or prepare) and serving dinner for the families attending a Kids' Haven Family Grief Support Group Night. Meal Makers may be organizations, clubs, families, or individuals. Meals should be family—and kid-friendly and serve 30-35 people. Kids' Haven staff coordinates the meal schedule. Family Group Nights occur twice monthly on Monday evenings, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, throughout the school year (please visit our website, www.kidshavenlynchburg.org, for our Family Group Night dates).

If you are interested in providing a meal, please email programs@kidshavenlynchbur.org or call (434) 845-4072 to discuss availability with a staff member!
