At Kids' Haven's Family Grief Support Group Nights, we provide the opportunity for children and teens who have experienced a life-changing loss and their families to join together as a community. Families have the opportunity to share a meal, free of charge, with others who can relate to them and our trained volunteers. Following dinner, we split into age-appropriate peer grief support groups. Grief-related themes are explored through games, art activities, and discussion during these group sessions, led by our trained facilitators. These group sessions help youth discover and develop tools to use along their grief journey, while sharing experiences with others who can relate to them. While Kids' Haven does not provide counseling services, we believe that children and teens can find understanding, stability, and support through participating in facilitated peer support groups. There is also a support group for parents/caregivers of the children during this time.
Individuals interested in volunteering must successfully complete Kids' Haven's volunteer application, screening, background checks, and training before beginning their role as a volunteer. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for our Family Group Night program, we would love to connect with you! Contact us by email programs@kidshavenlynchburg.org or call (434) 845-4072.
