Virginia Center for the Creative Arts
Guided by the conviction that art nourishes individuals and civilization, VCCA provides a supportive environment in a residential setting for writers, visual artists, and composers of all cultural and economic backgrounds to pursue their creative work. VCCA's artist residency program at Mt. San Angelo in Amherst, Virginia, provides each Fellow in residence with a private individual studio, a private bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and three meals a day meals in a community of cross-disciplinary artists. Life at VCCA is free of many of the distractions we find in everyday life. Artists are free to work at their own pace in quiet, spacious, light-filled studios, just a short walk from their residence overlooking the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. VCCA engages its community of artists, supporters, volunteers, and neighbors with virtual events, in-person gatherings, an annual fundraising gala, volunteer days, collaborative programming with Sweet Briar College, and more.
- VCCA hosts more than 400 writers, visual artists, and composers each year at residency programs in Amherst, Virginia, and Auvillar, France.
- VCCA partners with neighboring Sweet Briar College for community events, seminars, and special classes.
- VCCA was established in 1971 by Virginia writers Nancy Hale and Elizabeth Coles Langhorne.
