What We Do

The Legacy Project, Inc., owns and operates The Legacy Museum of African American History which provides rotating exhibits and programs on all aspects of local African American history and culture. The mission of the museum is to enrich the lives of visitors by fostering an appreciation of the diversity of the African American experience in Lynchburg and surrounding areas. The Legacy Museum aims to serve all segments of the community by providing education and cultural enrichment through exhibitions, workshops, programs and events.

Interesting Info

The Legacy Museum is Central Virginia's first museum of African American History and Culture.
In 2002, Legacy Project Inc. received a national award from the National Endowment for the Humanities for local history.
The museum is housed in a renovated 1897 Victorian home constructed by architect Edward G. Frye.
