What We Do

The Central Virginia Academy for Nonprofit Excellence (CVANE) exists to improve the quality, integrity and efficiency of Central Virginia’s charitable organization network through the education of board members, staff and volunteers. By strengthening, educating and engaging non-profits, CVANE seeks to help improve the quality of life in Central Virginia through improved program operations, increased resources for families and individuals, and greater impact of charitable donations. CVANE’s geographic focus is Region 2000, consisting of Lynchburg City, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell counties, although classes and workshops will be available to all who are interested. CVANE will provide unique training by seasoned professionals who are experts in their respective fields, and offered at a reasonable cost to ensure broad accessibility to a wide range of service providers. Region 2000 includes over 1,000 tax-exempt nonprofit organizations; while some have support and training from healthy national organizations, the majority do not. There has been no centralized resource within the region promoting excellence in nonprofit management to which these organizations can turn for information, training, mentoring, and support.
