What We Do
Our mission is to assist youth who participate in the program to develop self-esteem, interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills. We provide hands-on exposure to a variety of new cultural experiences. We have worked with the Academy Center of the Arts in 2016 & 2017, to bring performing arts experiences to surrounding areas in conjunction with the YMCA. Our first program was at the Jubilee Family Development Center in 2016, participants learned creative writing and presentation skills. We went to county schools such as Rustburg Elementary, Tomahawk Elementary, Concord Elementary and some other sites. We worked with Boys & Girls Club in 2017 on a participant presentation for their yearly Thanksgiving Dinner at the Academy. In 2017 our It's Story Telling Time was at Opera on the James and our participants learned theatre games, writing skills and performance skills, we created a mini movie versus doing a stage performance. We have done some plays with some of our area youth involved, these were done at Dunbar Middle School, Liberty University and the Academy between 2017-2019. IN 2022 we worked with Boys and Girls Club in a drumming workshop and spoken word workshop. We have an amazing summer theater camp in collaboration with Academy Center of the Arts.
