What We Do
The Mission of the Amherst County Museum & Historical Society is to discover, collect, and preserve objects related to the history and genealogy of Amherst County. The Museum and Historical Society exhibits, interprets and offers those collections to provide educational experiences for people of all ages.
Our #GivingTuesdayGreaterLYH greatest need is operating costs.

- Thomas Jefferson, as Governor of Virginia, fled from Monticello with his family, stopping at Geddes in Amherst County, as the British attempted to capture him.
- Amherst County was the 52nd county formed in Virginia in 1761.
- We'd like to see every kindergartener and 4th grader in Amherst come to the Museum to learn about their county's heritage.
