Amherst County Habitat for Humanity puts God's love into action by bringing people together to Build Homes, Communities and Hope. We offer a unique solution that reduces dependency on government programs and breaks the cycle of GENERATIONAL poverty. We start by partnering with families through our Homebuyer's Club financial classes. Upon graduation, applications are received and processed. We charge ZERO percent interest on our self-held mortgages, building homes with volunteer labor & some donated materials, thus making the housing affordable. Our office expenses are covered by our incoming mortgage payments thus allowing all donations, fundraisers and undesignated grants to go into our building program. We are a "teach a man to fish" non-profit basically serving those in the ALICE category: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, giving them the needed hand up to stand on their own!
Our greatest need is for dedicated volunteers, and construction funding. We have VA State Tax credits available as of July1st annually for donations $500 or greater for individuals or $616 for businesses. Consult our office and your tax preparer to discuss the benefits.
Our Homebuyer's Club Financial Literacy classes will take place this Spring. Call the office 434-946-9596 or email amherstcountyhabitat@gmail.com to obtain qualifications & register.
