LSO Presents: Rhapsody in Blue at 100

Join us for a celebratory performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, as this beloved masterpiece marks its 100th birthday.  Experience Gershwin’s epic melodies as local pianist Emily Yap Chua joins the LSO for an electrifying performance of this masterpiece. Also on the program are two composers who influenced Gershwin: Maurice Ravel and Duke Ellington. The program includes Ravel’s hypnotic Bolero, and Ellington’s thrilling Night Creature.

What you will experience

• A celebratory performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, as this beloved masterpiece marks its 100th birthday, performed by local pianist Emily Yap Chua.

• A full 65 piece orchestra

• Ravel’s electrifying Bolero, made famous by ice dancers Torvill and Dean, and frequently used in other figure skating routines and movies.

• An epic masterpiece for jazz band and orchestra, by Duke Ellington who was an inspiration to both Gershwin and Ravel.
