Volunteer with Opera on the James!
Arts Marketing • Community Outreach • Special Events
Love the arts? Interested in marketing, communications, event planning, nonprofit work, or just looking for a fun way to complete your community volunteer hours? At least 18 years old?
Opera on the James, Central Virginia’s professional opera company, is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us bring great performances and programs to audiences throughout the region.
And no, you do not have to know anything about opera!
What You Might Do
Depending on your interests, skills, and our upcoming events, volunteers may help with:
- Marketing & Postering: Distribute posters, postcards, and other promotional materials at businesses, campuses, coffee shops, libraries, and community locations throughout the Lynchburg area.
- Social Media & Digital Marketing: Help create and schedule social media content, take photos and short videos at events, brainstorm posts and reels, and help us reach new audiences.
- Special Events: Assist with performances, receptions, family events, fundraising events, and community programs. Duties might include greeting guests, check-in, ushering, setting up displays, decorating, distributing programs, and helping behind the scenes.
- Community Outreach: Help prepare materials for programs in schools, libraries, senior communities, and other locations throughout Central Virginia.
- Office & Development Projects: Assist with mailings, donor materials, organizing marketing supplies, research, data entry, and other special projects.
- Creative Projects: Those with skills in graphic design, photography, video, writing, theatre, music, or communications may have opportunities to put those talents to work.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for individuals who are friendly, dependable, comfortable working independently when needed, and willing to jump in wherever they can be useful.
Students interested in marketing, communications, business, nonprofit management, event planning, theatre, music, graphic design, photography, education, and community engagement may find this opportunity especially valuable!
Some volunteer assignments take place during regular business hours, while performances and special events may offer evening or weekend opportunities.
