Opera On the James

Opera on the James kicks off its 22nd season November 6th and 8th, 2026 with Mozart's fantastical and adventurous "The Magic Flute" We'll need volunteers for our costume department in the leadup to the show, as well to load-out, organize and return costumes.

Costume Support: Work with our fabulous NYC costumer beginning October 20th. You'll be...

• Unloading and hanging hundreds of gorgeous costumes;
• Helping with performer fittings and alterations;
• Sourcing supplies and solving problems as they arise;
• Dressing singers during the run of the show; and
• Loading it all up and shipping it out when all is said and done.

Costuming a major opera is an exciting, satisfying endeavor! Come play with us at Opera on the James!

Why Opera on the James?

Opera on the James is a professional nonprofit arts organization based in downtown Lynchburg. In addition to producing professional opera, we bring performances and educational programs into schools, libraries, senior communities, and public spaces throughout Central Virginia.

OOTJ volunteers get a behind-the-scenes look at how a professional arts organization works while helping make the arts more visible and accessible in our community.

Come help us spread the word, dress the cast, and make the magic happen.

No singing required. We promise.
