YWCA Central Virginia Fulfilling Their Mission Through Outreach

Written by Alyssa Wilson, University of Lynchburg Bonner Intern

YWCA Central Virginia’s mission is “eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.” They adhere to their mission through programming and looking out for the women of the community.

Due to the increase in domestic violence fatalities that our community has grieved recently, YWCA Central Virginia will be hosting an event led by experts to shed light on domestic violence prevention practices and share other resources that are present in the community.

Listen and Learn: Community Insights on Domestic Violence  requires no registration to attend and will take place at E.C Glass High School at 7 p.m. on March 28 (tonight).

In the month of April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, there will be additional events educating on sexual assault and bringing awareness of the statistics in Lynchburg.

The organization’s other programs include sexual assault response and residential housing.

Their residential housing program has been helping women experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity for 110 years.

YWCA Central Virginia has several volunteer opportunities for those who have a passion for helping those experiencing sexual assault and/or domestic violence including: DVPP Office Support, Victim Services Volunteer Recruitment Support, and SARP Volunteer ER Companion
